A commanding one-woman show starring Jean Stapleton as Eleanor Roosevelt that examines her early years, as a restless young wife and mother of five. Unfulfilled by her duties at home and fueled with the knowledge that her husband, Franklin, is having an affair, Eleanor searches for meaning in her life and is determined to carve out her own identity. This play, though historically accurate, is largely an imagined trip through the mind of Eleanor Roosevelt and traces her personal journey from well-bred, passive observer to active, spirited participant in the causes she took up later in life. This glowing portrait perfectly captures the real woman behind this icon of American history. A co-production with The Smithsonian Associates and Voice of America.

An L.A. Theatre Works solo performance starring Jean Stapleton.

Directed by Nick Olcott. Recorded before a live audience at Voice of America, Washington D.C. in June of 2000.
